Practice Schedule (Oct. 30th & 31st)

Hey Westdale!

It was great to see so many of you at practice this morning, and there will be lots to cover in the upcoming weeks so I’ll be posting monthly practice schedules (in PDF & JPEG formats) on this blog starting next week.

First off, novices: Does erging seem a bit bizarre? Want some guidance on how to improve your rowing? Check out this post I wrote last year & click on the links to access copies of Learn-to-Row manuals. They’re super helpful, I promise! Also, I’ll be giving out the gifts this year too (your very own Rowing Logbook!).

For the remainder of this week’s practices, I’m posting the team schedule here in this blog-post:

Thursday, Oct. 30th:

Novices – Outdoor Run (35min) & Indoor Core Workout (35min) (please dress accordingly – bring warm layers!)

Experienced Rowers
– Ergs (2 groups)
ALL: 5min group warmup
G1: 30min LD erg (Cat 6) @20spm; 5 min rest, then 30min “House of Pain” (Cat 4)
G2: 30min “House of Pain” (Cat 4), 5min rest, then 30min LD erg @20spm

Friday, Oct. 31st:

*
YOU CAN WEAR SPOOKY WORKOUT CLOTHES FOR HALLOWEEN & THERE WILL BE A SURPRISE*

Novices – 40min Tech Erg (partner switches), then 40min “House of Pain” (Cat 4)

Experienced Rowers
– 40min stair runs (tag-teams) (Cat 4); 40min Tech Erg (Cat 6) & Weights Form (Cat 6) (partner switches)

…this week we’re a big group, but by next week we’ll have you coordinated in different groups so that you can easily get your workouts in without missing out on erg time (yay! amiright?!).

REMEMBER: Please bring in your permissions forms this week – your form must be submitted in order to train (if you need a permission form, please see Ms. Craven in Room 105). Also, click the “FOLLOW” button on this blog (and get your parents to do it too) to ensure you get all the training updates 🙂

Cheers,
Alessandra

Rowing Starts Tomorrow!

Hey folks!

This is a friendly reminder to all athletes and parents that the Westdale Indoor Rowing Team practices start tomorrow morning at 6:30am. As Mike already mentioned, please ensure that you have submitted your permission form/waiver and expect to come straight to the middle gym after entering the school.

In order to run the practice on time, we’d advise that you come prepared in your rowing gear before you arrive at the school (this avoids losing time due to changing in the changerooms).

See you all soon!
Alessandra

Re-post from Leander Boat Club. Docks out day is Saturday, November 8th from 8am to noon!!!!!

For those Westdale Athletes that are also LBC juniors you will already be aware of this.  It would also be great for the Westdale rowing team to come out and help with this important activity.  A part of our rowing culture is to help with the club activities.   The docks out day signifies the end of the on water rowing season and our transition  to indoor training.    For the new athletes this is a good opportunity to experience a bit of rowing and also help out.
Ali and I will talk about this over the first two weeks of training.
