The first of three Fortino’s grocery bagging fundraisers will be held on New Years Eve at the Main and Dundurn Fortino’s. I’m confirming it on Monday and have set up the first draft of rosters with all names on it. There is tentatively one 3 hour shift for the less busy time, and two 2.5 hour shifts for the busier times. We would like as many of you in Westdale rowing or Westdale clothing as possible! If you are unable to make it, I need to know NOW.
WESTDALE ROWING UNISUITS
Mike has a limited number of men’s unisuits available. I believe the cost is $75, but will confirm. Women will have to order them through a company called RegattaSport. We are currently setting up the site at the moment and will let you know–there will be a link on this blog. Cost will be roughly $75-$80. Again, this will be confirmed. You will need a racing unisuit for all on-water regattas in the spring. It is a one time cost.
The regatta schedules page has been updated to reflect all regattas–both indoor and outdoor–for the season. There will be more information on indoor races in the coming weeks. It’s not mandatory to do ALL winter regattas, but we’d encourage doing as many as possible (especially novices), so you learn to deal with race day nerves. The two that are most important are the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships in Mississauga on February 4th, and the Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships in St. Catharines on March 3rd. The Leander Indoors in mid-January and the Mac 2×4 are also highly popular local events that Westdale is typically well-represented at. Any questions, please ask or e-mail me!
As we approach the on-water season, we will be setting up a swim test for all novices. You are exempt from this ONLY IF you can prove swimming competency via a bronze cross, bronze medallion or lifesaving certificate. Otherwise, you will need to take the test. If you can’t swim, you have some time to learn. We will not allow anyone on the water in the spring without proof they are able to swim & tread water. This is non-negotiable, for obvious reasons. Again, any questions, please ask.
