BENNETT/BOATINGS THRU THURSDAY

We will be attending the John Bennett Regatta in Buffalo, NY, on Sunday, May 5, but RACING AS LEANDER BOAT CLUB. There will be no affiliation with Westdale at that regatta. That regatta is also NOT COVERED IN YOUR SPRING FEES! Each rower will be paying for their entries, plus we are splitting the cost of the trailer. Last year, I believe the cost worked out to roughly $45-$50 per person. I know of one person who is unable to make it. Please let me know ASAP if you CAN attend this regatta. I will not put in an entry until I’ve confirmed with you that you’re going.
Given that the entries are in US dollars, we won’t know the costs until afterwards. I will invoice each person individually at that time. I’ll follow with boatings Friday through Monday later today or tomorrow. Some of you here either haven’t sculled before or done very little. We are going to start putting some of you in sculling boats to see how you do.
If your name is NOT listed on a day, you’ve either requested it off, or you aren’t rostered. Please show up anyway.
I’m really spreading the coxing duties around as much as possible. We need three per day, with Maddie being one of those three. If you wind up coxing twice in a week, you should only be rostered once the following week. I’m also trying to get you as many rows as possible. There are less than seven weeks left in the season.
It’s very difficult to get launched in a timely manner when we’re down to one grey dock and coach boat motors stop working. Keep doing your best and try to get out as fast as possible in the morning.

Hi everyone,

Please note that we need ALL wine donation and other prizes brought in by Thursday of this week. Chili Cook-off is fast approaching! We need to give Monika (Alex’s mom) a couple days to ensure that all is wrapped in baskets and ready to go.

Ian (Serena’s grandfather) with be collecting on Tuesday morning at Leander at 7:40 am. Michaela (Sequoia and Lachlan’s mom) will be collecting at Leander at 7:40 on Wednesday and Thursday.

Please contact me directly if you need to make other arrangements. Sheri (289)776-9091.

For new parents, we know that the commitment to your child’s rowing team seems to involve a lot of your time, money and effort. It is unlike other school sports. And I’m sure you are wondering “what has my kid dragged me into??? I didn’t sign up for this!!” I know I felt that way at first. We mentioned at the parent meeting that the fundraisers are to help pay for the expensive equipment that our students are able to use everyday to train including ergs at the school, boats, oars, coach boats and so much more. We are so fortunate to have three fully trained coaches and two experienced rowers who volunteer to commit countless hours of their own time to take our kids out at ridiculously early hours in the morning everyday before going off to their own jobs for the day. The experience that your child will have from this will be one no other school sport can give. They learn determination, dedication, self-discipline, commitment, teamwork. They become better versions of themselves physically and mentally. It is worth the commitment from all ends to make this happen. Thank you so much for your efforts towards this. You will not regret it.

THIS WEEKEND

We are planning this weekend’s rows. Friday and Saturday are set—Friday will start at 7am and Saturday is the Fortino’s fundraiser with no row that day. We are considering Sunday and Monday rows at 7am both days. We’ll row Sunday ONLY IF the weather is nice, with Tuesday to become your off day. The dates should be confirmed shortly. The Bennett Regatta is back on the table for the whole squad, so it is imperative that we maximize our water time and also maximize GOOD water if it’s available. Stay tuned.
