ON TO MOTHERS DAY!!!
Racing crews for this weekend are posted below. The draw is not posted yet, so we don’t know race times. I will post those as soon as I get them. For those who went to Buffalo, EXCELLENT job yesterday. I thought our novices raced extremely well at their first regatta and it bodes well to get better and faster at Mothers Day! This regatta will be side-by-side racing in both heats and finals. Some of our entries are straight finals, but most events will require heats in the morning. We will ask that all rowers be onsite in St. Catharines for 6:30AM to rig all our boats. Even if you aren’t racing til late morning or even early afternoon in a straight final, please be onside at 6:30. There will be PLENTY of Westdale crews to cheer on for the day!!!! We will be racing as Westdale, so we are now able to wear our school racing uniform with pride!
Michaela will be putting out the regatta document for Mothers Day this week. This is a FANTASTIC source of information and needs to be read by all parents and rowers. Everything you need to know about Mothers Day, will be in this document.
It is a LONG day and a VERY busy day! Based on Bennett, this advice is probably aimed at us coaches more than you rowers! You all seemed to have put sunscreen on, whereas we mostly got burned!!!!! Forecast for Sunday looks sunny but quite windy in the late morning (tailwind).
Please help on Sunday when you can—if you see a coach or a rower struggling carrying oars, jump in to help. And remember that crews carrying boats to the water, or on the dock, is not a time to be chatty and social. They’re likely nervous and focused, so drop the oars and walk away unless requested to do something.
Also, I know it’s Mothers Day. My wife knows it’s Mothers Day because she reminds me every year that, yet again, I’m at a regatta! My official policy for Mothers Day is that I don’t respond to any requests to leave early or to miss trailer unloading at the end of the day. If you commit to the regatta, you commit to being there from the early morning for trailer unloading and rigging, to being at the club for trailer unloading and rigging at the end of the day. It is a team day and we are a team!
